NORBIT iWBMS Dual Head

NORBIT iWBMS Dual Head

A two-head configuration of the integrated iWBMS survey platform. Port and starboard sonar coverage can be arranged around the vessel and the survey objective, supporting shallow-water mapping and coverage close to structures. Installation geometry and synchronisation are central to a consistent combined dataset.

A two-head bathymetric installation

An iWBMS Dual Head installation combines observations from two sonar heads to provide coverage suited to the vessel geometry. Each head requires its own offset, angular alignment and timing checks. Overlap, line planning and cross lines are important for shallow-water and near-structure surveys. Beam count, sector and power figures from the single-head brochure cannot simply be doubled into a system guarantee; total performance depends on the selected installation.

Applications and survey workflow

Two sonar heads require individually measured offsets and alignment. The combined coverage must be evaluated with overlap checks, timing verification and a survey plan appropriate to the mounting angles.

Before mobilisation, the survey team defines the coordinate system, vertical reference and required deliverables. Mounting geometry, sensor offsets and time synchronisation are checked as one installation. Positioning quality, vessel motion and sound-speed conditions are reviewed during acquisition so that the final dataset can be assessed against the project specification.

Integration and deliverables

The selected hardware and software configuration determines the available outputs and interfaces. A practical workflow includes installation checks, a trial line, field quality control and documented processing. Depending on the sensor, deliverables may include a bathymetric surface, an inspection image, a point cloud or an interpreted sediment profile. Kordil can evaluate the platform, operating environment and intended use when defining the system configuration.
