Standard or SAR
Choose the standard dual-frequency system for general survey and biological work. Choose the SAR configuration when victim search is the primary requirement. The standard model’s beam and resolution figures should not be assumed to describe the SAR channel.

Planning search coverage
Plan the search area and overlapping survey lines before deployment, and record the position of each candidate target for follow-up inspection. Review observations from more than one direction where practical, because shadows and viewing geometry can affect interpretation. Keep the original sonar recordings with the navigation log and search notes. A sonar contact provides a location for further investigation; its identity should be confirmed through the appropriate inspection procedure.
