Dura-Spark UHD Seismic Source
Dura-Spark UHD Seismic Source
Applied Acoustics Dura-Spark UHD is a sparker seismic source for high and ultra-high resolution marine geophysical surveys. Its durable electrodes generate a repeatable acoustic pulse for imaging sediment layers beneath the seabed. The source is available with 240 or 400 tips, allowing the survey team to select an arrangement around the required energy, vessel equipment and investigation objectives.

Source configuration
The 240-tip version uses three arrays of 80 tips; the 400-tip version uses five. Array selection at the onboard junction box and adjustable towing depth help tune the source to the survey. Inter-array flip-flop and fire-delay capability provide further configuration options. The complete installation includes a compatible CSP power supply, high-voltage cable, junction box and an appropriate towing arrangement.
Survey applications
Typical applications include offshore site investigation, cable-route surveys and marine engineering studies requiring detailed sub-bottom information. Dura-Spark UHD can be combined with single-channel receivers or a multi-channel streamer. Receiver geometry, shot interval, navigation and recording settings should be planned together so that the seismic records can be related to the survey track and processed consistently.
Operation and integration
Long-life electrodes reduce the frequency of tip replacement and help maintain a consistent source signature during acquisition. The nominal operating bandwidth is 300 Hz to 1.2 kHz, while pulse length varies with applied power. Penetration and the detail visible in the final section depend on sediment properties, towing conditions and acquisition settings. Source energy alone does not define the achievable investigation depth.
