1500 Series Acoustic Releases

Applied Acoustics 1529P acoustic release beacon for subsea equipment recovery

Applied Acoustics acoustic releases provide a remotely commanded connection for deploying and recovering subsea instruments, moorings and reference equipment. A compatible surface unit sends an acoustic command to the release beacon, allowing equipment to be recovered without a permanent surface line. These systems are used in environmental monitoring, metocean measurement and marine survey programmes where instruments must remain on the seabed for an extended period.

1500 Series release beacons

The 1500 Series combines acoustic communication with a mechanical release. Two-way communication supports command acknowledgement and battery-status checks; supported models also provide inclination information. The release can serve as an acoustic positioning reference with compatible Easytrak equipment. The correct model depends on the load, water depth, deployment duration and recovery arrangement.

The medium-frequency operating band is 17–32 kHz. Listening endurance is distinct from active ranging or command use. The 1529P reports pitch and roll, supporting assessment of the installed release orientation before recovery.

Control, recovery and accessories

PAM 3515 equipment supports on-deck configuration, testing and acoustic command operations. Depending on the chosen arrangement, a release installation may also use flotation, a recovery line canister and replacement battery or release components. Compatibility should be checked for the beacon, surface command unit and any positioning system used during deployment.

Planning a deployment

Load rating, deployment geometry and water depth must be matched to the selected release model. Listening life differs from active operating life and depends on the deployment settings. Kordil can help assemble an appropriate release, command and recovery configuration for the intended survey or monitoring task.
